Prerequisites and Requirements

  • A private pilot certificate is your starting point.
  • You should have a current flight review and medical certificate in hand.

Flight Experience

  • Log 50 hours of cross-country flight as the Pilot in Command (PIC).
  • Accumulate 40 hours in simulated instrument conditions.
  • Complete at least 15 hours of instrument flight training with a qualified instructor, including a comprehensive 250NM IFR cross-country flight.

Essential Materials

  • Enroll in a recommended Instrument Rating Course for an in-depth knowledge base.
  • Study materials include the Instrument Procedures Handbook, Instrument Flying Handbook, and Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge.
  • Stay current with the latest FAR/AIM and instrument publications, available in both digital and physical formats.
  • Prepare with the Instrument Rating Airplane Airman Certification Standards (ACS).
  • Practice with Foggles to simulate instrument flight conditions effectively.
